1. INEC Fixes Dates For Completion Of Rivers Governorship Election

Nigeria’s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday said resumption of collation and announcement of results of the March 9 Rivers state governorship election would hold between April 2 and 5. A schedule of activities for the completion of the Rivers election was released on Wednesday by the commission.

2. Senate Presidency: PDP’s Ambition, Exercise In Futility, Says APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will be an exercise in futility for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to nurse ambition of producing the President of the 9th Senate. Concise News reports that Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC National Publicity Secretary, stated this at an interactive session with newsmen Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

3. How Nigerians Use Phones To Import Pizza – Agric Minister Ogbeh (Video)

Nigeria’s minister of agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, has bitterly complained about how some Nigerians use their cellphones to import pizza into the country from London through British Airways. The minister decried the high rate of food importation, saying local farmers are being affected by the ‘annoying situation’ of Nigerians buying pizza from the United Kingdom.

Nigerian tweeps have lambasted Nigeria’s minister of agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, for saying some citizens of the country import pizza from London through British Airways. 5. Dogara Lashes Out At Buhari Over Nigeria’s Budgets

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has tackled President Muhammadu Buhari on the proposed 2019 appropriation bill and previous ones. Concise News reports that Dogara, in his opening remarks at a public hearing on the 2019 budget, said the budgets over the years had only reflected the selfish wish of its drafters.

6. I Will Contest For Deputy Senate President – Orji Uzor Kalu

A former Abia governor, Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed his desire to contest for the position of the Deputy Senate President in the soon to be constituted 9th National Assembly. He also asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the position to the South-East in the interest of equity and justice. Kalu, who was elected to represent Abia North senatorial district, said these on Wednesday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

7. INEC To Propose Constitutional Amendment To Overhaul Electoral Process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wants to embark on aggressive constitutional and electoral reforms to enhance the integrity of the electoral process. The Commission also promised to consider the duality of electronic and manual collation and transmission of results to prevent noticeable lapses.

8. Buhari Govt Moves To Prevent Another ASUU Strike

President Muhammadu Buhari administration and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have begun fresh re-negotiations of the 2009 agreement aimed at warding off another strike by the union. Wale Babalakin, the Chairman, Federal Government re-negotiation team, said after a meeting Wednesday that he was hopeful the meeting would yield positive results.

9. Eagles 70 Per Cent Ready For AFCON, Says Rohr

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has said his squad is 70 per cent ready for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, after the team defeated Egypt in a friendly on Tuesday. The Franco-German, however, said the team still needed to improve in so many areas before the start of the competition on 22 June in Egypt.

10. Another Veteran Yoruba Actor Bedridden (Video)

Popular Yoruba actor Dayo Akinpelu, popularly known as Alabi Yellow, has suffered a partial stroke. Confirming the news on Wednesday, comedian Jigan Babaoja of ‘Sho Mo Age Mi’ fame, announced that his foundation would visit the actor and see to his speedy recovery. Concise News gathered that the 62-year-old actor’s health deteriorated after his wife passed away recently.
