The Lagos state government has reiterated its determination at ensuring that it curb the spread of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the state.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) Dr. Oluseyi Sunday Temowo stated this at a press briefing after meeting with stakeholders on HIV response in the State.
Temowo said the meeting was to re-strategize against the spread of the scourge after the recent arrest and arraignment of 40 men having sex with men (MSM) in the State, with 23 of the 28 adults being HIV positive persons.
The CEO also stressed that efforts must be intensified to increase the awareness level of Lagos residents so that they could access free HIV Testing services provided by the Lagos State Government to achieve the 90-90-90 initiative by 2020 and eradication of the scourge by 2030.
Temowo stated that the initiative is to get 90% of the residents of Lagos State counseled and tested to know their HIV status; get 90% of those that know their status have access to treatment while 90% of those on treatment have viral load suppression so as not to be able to infect others.
He, therefore, called on all Lagosians to access Free HIV Testing Services (HTS) at the General Hospitals across the State close to their places of residence while the Agency trucks move to the nooks and crannies of the State for the same purpose in order to achieve an HIV-free Lagos.
