Over 20 African Countries To Participate In 2017 African Drums Festival – Amosun

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state says over 20 African countries have so far indicated interest in participating in the  2017 African Drums Festival.

The 2017 African Drums Festival is billed to hold between Thursday, April 20 and Saturday, April 22, 2017.

In a statement released by Adejuwon Soyinka, the senior special Assistant on Media to Ogun State Governor, African Drums Festival, is an expanded version of the 2016 maiden edition tagged, the Nigerian Drums Festival.

At the maiden edition in 2016, the Ogun state government unveiled the world’s tallest drum.

Over 13 states signify interest

Speaking at a World Press Conference to unveil the official logo for the 2017 African Drums Festival, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who was represented by his deputy, Yetunde Onanuga, said over 12 states of the federation that have also confirmed attendance.

The governor added that the festival, themed “Reviving Our Culture in Drums”, would reveal the richness and depth of Ogun, Nigeria and by extension, African culture to the world.

Emphasising on the preservation of African cultural heritage, he said “the 2017 African Drums Festival would afford us the opportunity to learn from our cultural values and diversity and promote African unity.”

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the 2017 African Drums Festival local organising committee and the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, said the event would boost the economy of Ogun state and showcase its rich cultural heritage.

He added that the state government was committed to sustaining the festival and using it to place Ogun state on the world map for good reasons.
