NMMA Winner Urges More Investment In Tourism

Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) winner, Executive Producer of “Thru The African Eye” Ms Yvonne Bassey, has urged more investment from the private sector in Tourism.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the  NMMA winner today in Lagos admitted that there are private sector investments but the tourism industry has still not been fully exploited.

The”Thru The African Eye” presenter said that tourism Industry in Nigeria needed thorough grooming, so as to generate huge revenue and create employment opportunities.

Government Sees Potentials Of Tourism

Bassey said that the Government is looking into tourism as an alternative to oil in generating revenue.

“The tourism industry should be managed by the private sector because it is private sector-driven,”

“It is the private sector that feels the pinch of loss and gains; it should be handled by people who have passion for it because it is an interactive and intimate sector,” The Presenter said.

The humble presenter on her award, gave God the glory for rewarding her excellence, despite the health challenges she’s facing.

“The awards represent healing and strength for me, as it came during my recovery process,’’ she said.

The presenter who has set a standard for travel and tourism documentaries in Nigeria, emerged winner of two Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA) 2016, bringing the total of awards she has garnered from the NMMA to 10.

Ms Bassey won both Programme of the Year and theTelevision Reporter of the Year.

Bassey, who recently suffered a fatal accident, along the Sagamu express road which affected her neck, took the pain to ask for the payment of a documentary she executed for the Cross River carnival State Commission, since 2013.

She added”Mr Gabriel Onah requested that I should execute it with my personal funds, after which I would be reimbursed but I have just got a thank you for that.”

“I lost my loyal and dedicated driver in this fatal accident on my way from Calabar to demand for the payment for my job which has not been paid.” She continued.

“I humbly request for a prompt payment for the documentary I ran since 2013,’’ she pleaded.
