Nigeria’s Falcons are confident of subduing the Black Queens of Ghana in Wednesday’s Group B showdown of the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Falcons had a perfect start to the competition with a 6-0 whitewashing of Mali on Sunday, while the Ghanaian ladies also had it good as they defeated Kenya 3-1.

Nigeria and Ghana are on three points, but the ladies in green top the group on superior goal difference.

Both sides now have it all to play for, with a semi-final slot on offer.

And the seven-time African champions believe they have what it takes to defeat their West African rivals, having won three titles at their expense.

This was made known by the team’s coach Florence Omagbemi and striker  Chioma Wogu. They have declared their readiness for a potentially crunchy game in Limbe.

We are ready, says Omagbemi

”We are looking forward to playing Ghana. Everyone is focused and all the players are intact. We take it one game at a time and we won’t underrate or overrate any team.

”We watched Ghana against Kenya and we are looking forward to a good match. Hopefully, we will have a good day and emerge victorious,” Omagbemi told cafonline.

On her part, Rivers Angels forward Wogu said they would approach the encounter like a cup final.

We want to win every game – Wogu

“We  have trained well and fully prepared for them [Black Queens]. The team is aiming to win every game in the tournament,”  Wogu was quoted by Goal.

“And we are not going to underrate Ghana but we will face them just like we came out against Mali.”

She added, “My ambition here is not to score goals but to help the team win every game,  But if the chance comes to score,  I will surely take it. I want to win the title with Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the Black Queens have also stated their readiness for the duel. Head coach of the side, Yusif Basigi told cafonline that his side are poised for a win against the African champions.

Black Queens psyched for Falcons

”I have psyched the players and prepared their minds and they are poised for the match. They are relaxed and will be battle ready.”

In a similar vein, midfielder Elizabeth Addo is confident of their chances against the Nigerian ladies.

We know Nigeria, says Addo

”We are very prepared. The Nigerians know us well and we know them, too. We are not under pressure.

”There is always a first time. Ghana has reached the final on three previous occasions and lost to Nigeria each time. Who knows? We can make history this time,” she also told cafonline.
