The Federal Government has hinged the reasons behind the non-implementation of the recommendations drafted at the end of the 2016 Tourism Summit on activities tied to the budget.
Director of Cultural Industries and Heritage Seyi Womiloju Informed the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview in Abuja on Sunday.
To be included in 2017 budget
“The reason why the recommendations cannot be implemented this year is because the budget was drafted before the summit took place; meaning the recommendations came after the budget was drafted.
“And you know that budgets are normally prepared for next year’s expenditures. But I am very positive that the implementation will be captured in the next year’s budget.
To make tourism a source of revenue
“Don’t forget that the 2016 Tourism Summit was on diversification. And also, an implementation committee was constituted. Am sure that government will do all it can to achieve it,’’ Womiloju said
According to him, Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed is very passionate about the diversification of the country’s economy. And he desires for tourism to be a major source of revenue generation.
Womiloju further explained that the present administration had expressed its commitment on several occasions. He then said the sector was ready to take tourism to the next level.
Also, he emphasised that the minister of information and culture had worked tirelessly to ensure the country’s growth in tourism. s
