Late Nigeria’s minister of information Dora Akunyili

A posthumous award has been conferred on Professor Dora Akunyili for her immense contributions in the struggle towards a better welfare package for media workers in Nigeria.

The award, Meritorious Service to Humanity, was conferred on the late Akunyili by the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) on Thursday in Abuja.

The union’s National President Yemisi Bamgbose disclosed that the former Minister of Information, who died on June 7 2014, worked tirelessly in ensuring improved welfare of its members across the country.

“We decided to honour her posthumously today because of her efforts at securing better welfare for our members.

“Whatever we are enjoying today as improved welfare package was made possible with her efforts.

“We believe award should be bestowed only to those who have genuinely contributed to society and most especially as it concerns us, the Media Sector,“ he said .
