Former Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba has reacted to his country’s defeat by Algeria in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt on Thursday.
Concise News reports that the Chelsea legend claimed that despite his country’s defeat to the North Africans, he is proud of the team.
Sofiane Feghouli had given Algeria a 1-0 lead in the first half before Jonathan Kodjia equalised for Ivory Coast in the second half as the match eventually ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.
The Maghreb nation eventually humbled the West Africans 4-3 on penalties to progress to the semi-finals, where they will take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday.
Speaking after the match, Drogba said that he was proud of his former side.
“Shots on goal do not always reflect the quality of a player. I’m proud of you, my younger brothers,” the Chelsea Legend said.
“Proud of my country, proud of our two stars. It goes up it goes down we’re together, that’s the Ivory 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮 Coast. Let’s get it together 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮 tomorrow.”
